Jacob O'Brien
Just a chill guy using stories to
lighten up this dismal hell-hole we all have to live in
ABOUT THE AUTHOR

If I had to guess, I’d say my absurd, witty, and slightly whimsical brand of humor is rooted in my childhood, most of which was spent reading Roald Dahl and L. Frank Baum or watching The Simpsons. As I got older, I came to appreciate the comedy of Jerry Seinfeld, David Letterman, Norm Macdonald, and Conan O’Brien (no relation), whose echoes can be heard in my work.

I turned to novel-writing as my preferred method of telling jokes after reading John Swartzwelder’s The Time Machine Did It, which taught me that it’s totally ok to write with the primary aim of entertaining yourself. My secondary aim is to give people a break from the darkness and drudgery of daily life.

I’m currently working on my third attempt at a debut novel. This one's called Dubble or Nothing, and it's about a reclusive gambler named Ace Dubble, who wagers everything he owns that he can help a dog-mouthed, out-of-shape loser find a wife. So far, it’s shaping up to be the greatest novel ever written.
